RICHFIELD SPRINGS _ Monte B. Smith, of 39 Bronner St., has received the official appointment as rural mail carrier on Route 2 out of the Richfield Springs Post Office and assumed his new duties Saturday.

Mr. Smith replaces Lester Druse, who has been substitute carrier since the retirement of Ward A. Watson on June 1, 1956. The route covers 52 miles.

Mr. Smith has been substitute clerk at the post office for more than a year and drove school bus No. 9 for the Warren Little Lakes area. He also conducts a photo studio in his home. He is president of the Richfield Springs Sportsmen's Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith (the former Elouise Hopkinson) have three children.
