Dominic P. Dewan

ONEONTA-- Dominic P. Dewan, 92, of Oneonta, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown.

He was born April 22, 1919, in Berwick, Pa., the son of the late Emedio and Angelina (DeRazio) "DeIoannon" Dewan.

He married Louise Shaver on April 10, 1971. She died on Feb. 9, 2009.

Dominic served his country with the United States Army in World War II and participated in the first wave of operations during the invasion of Normandy. He received several decorations and citations, including the Bronze Star Medal, and the NewYork State Conspicuous Service Cross.

For a period of 30 years, prior to his retirement, he worked as a car repairman for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad.

Dominic was a member of St. Mary's Church. He especially loved gardening and landscaping. He loved to putter around his yard.

Dominic is survived by his daughter, Donna K. Dewan and her husband, Greg Baldinger of Milford; his stepdaughters, Donna Baniewicz and her husband, Frank of Liverpool and Barbara Robbins and her husband, Tom of Dade City, Fla.; his stepsons, David Sweet of Owego and Daniel Dana of Wells Bridge. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Louise; his brother, Carmen; his sister, MaryAnn and his step-grandson, Michael Baniewicz.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday March 13, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., with the Rev Bernard Ampong officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. There will be no calling hours.
