Preparations are under way for the annual Holiday on Main festivities, hosted Saturday by the Business Association of Margaretville, according to organizers.

The day will kick off at 11 a.m. with a Main Street parade, featuring Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch. After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be guests of honor at the American Legion Hall, where hot chocolate will be served until 2 p.m.

Holiday on Main is held in conjunction with Shop Small Saturday, according to a media release, and many businesses will feature special offerings throughout the day.

Home Goods of Margaretville will host a cookie tasting, the Margaretville Liquor Store will host a wine tasting and Catskill Candies and Confections will offer chocolate samples. Bloom Fabric Art and Retreat will host a holiday star class and the Catskill Mountain Artisans’ Guild will host a kids’ gift-making class, while Kria Jewelry will offer tarot card readings. Visitors may sample tea and cookies at Barbara Alyn Designs and jam at Happy Giraffe, and peruse art exhibits at Honeybee Herbs and Longyear Gallery.

A holiday pop-up market will be held at the former Miller’s Drug Store on Friday and Saturday, and Margaretville Central School will host its annual holiday bazaar from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as a collection for Community Food Drive.

The Catskill Mountain Christian Center will host a live nativity at 4 p.m., and caroling and a tree-lighting will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Binnekill Park.

There will be free hayrides around the village throughout the day, and the Catskill Mountain Model Railroad Club will feature its holiday display at the First Presbyterian Church.

The auxiliary of Margaretville Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center thrift shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Nov. 30, featuring an assortment of new, gently used and holiday items at discounted prices.

Purchases at the thrift store help fund the purchase of new medical equipment and other necessary upgrades for both the hospital and the residential care center, according to a media release, which said the auxiliary hopes to exceed $100,000 in sales during the remainder of the year.

“Shop here, and you won’t be disappointed,” said store manager Tami Conine. “It’s a win-win for everyone — you can find unique items for all your holiday needs at great prices, and the Hospital and Mountainside Residential Care Center benefit.”

The Walton Chamber of Commerce is hosting Spend the Day in Walton on Saturday, featuring several indoor yard sales and flea markets throughout the town, including at Castle on the Delaware from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., First Baptist Church from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Walton Grange from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Alice’s Attic thrift store will offer 50% off blue- and yellow-tagged items, and the TLC Family Thrift Shop and Full Circle Antiques will both offer 20% off, according to the chamber. M & Friends Antiques is advertising 20% off items $10 or more.
