Women’s history exhibit on display

NORWICH — On Friday, March 8 — International Women’s Day — the Chenango Arts Council will highlight the place upstate New York holds in the nation’s history, not only the birthplace of the Women’s Suffrage Movement, but also the home of many noted reformers. Attendees will learn how the distinction also made literary history. “The Wizard of Oz” and its sequels were all heavily influenced by support for equal rights, presenters said in a media release. The first woman-led newspaper is also from upstate New York.

In “New York’s History is Women’s History,”  attendees will discover travel destinations throughout the region to learn more about New York’s place in the history of women’s emancipation.

There will be an opening reception starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 8. It will be free and open to the public. The exhibit will be on display through March 24.
