Comedic performances will be featured at three area locations this week.
First up is the "Not Too Far From Home Professional Stand Up Comedy Tour," which will feature Aaron David Ward, Mike Speirs and Steve Van Zandt. They will perform starting at 8 tonight at Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center, 24 Market St. in Oneonta.
Ward has been doing comedy for nearly a decade. A media release branded his style of performance as "funny, introspective and smart."
Speirs has performed statewide and is known for his honest take and life stories, the release said.
Van Zandt is a stand-up and impressionist, with more than 100 characters in his repertoire, the release said. In 1978, at 19, he received a perfect 30-point score on NBC's "Gong Show."
Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. For more information, call 431-2080 or visit foothillspac.org.
Saturday at 7:30 p.m. brings Christine Lavin and Don White to 6 On The Square, 6 LaFayette Park.
Lavin is an award-winning singer-songwriter-guitarist. According to a media release, she has been a major force in the contemporary music world for more than 20 years with 30 albums, 20 of them solo.
Her latest is 2010's "Cold Pizza For Breakfast." Lavin has appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America," NBC's "The Today Show" and National Public Radio's "Weekend Edition."
White also is a singer-songwriter-guitarist and recording artist. Robin Vaughan of the Boston Globe wrote of the artist, "Between sweetly amusing songs, White told tales of classic American life that had the audience screaming with laughter."
Of performing together on stage with Lavin, White said in the release: "It doesn't sound like a folk concert. It sounds like a comedy concert. There's 400 people screaming with laughter for the whole two hours. ... Inevitably, she'll throw something at me that I have no idea about, with a mischievous grin that lets me know she's been thinking about it all afternoon. Just to see what happens."
And Lavin said of White: "It's hard to describe what it is that Don does on stage because there's simply isn't anyone out there like him. I'm a brave performer to share the bill with someone who knocks audiences out the way like he does."
6OTS will host a pre-show "Knit and Chat" at 6:30 p.m. with Lavin. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For more details, call 843-6876 or go to www.6onthesquare.org.
Finally, Andy Pitz will perform at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Oneonta Theatre Balcony Ballroom, 47 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.
He has done standup for more than 20 years and has been featured on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson."
He has headlined comedy clubs worldwide.
Mark Norman will join Pitz on Thursday.
Tickets are $25 for Gold Circle -- which includes a table and bar service -- or $15 for Silver Circle tickets. For more information, visit www.oneontatheatre.com.
