Alert wild stallion posturing to repel an intruder, Red Desert, Wyoming

ONEONTA -- B. Sharp Studio and Gallery will host a reception for a new exhibit by photographers Yva Momatiuk and John Eastcott from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. The exhibit runs from Dec. 11 to Feb 15, 2011.

The pair have been combining their talents for more than 30 years, roaming the world together and exploring its hidden natural sanctuaries, a media release said.

Their field work has taken them from the vastness of the Arctic to the icy realm of the Antarctic, from Bering Sea to the Australian Outback.

For years they've followed wild mustangs of the American West and marine mammals in the polar regions, Alaska and the Yukon Territory in Canada.

They have received a number of international awards for their imagery, including first prize in the 2009 National Wildlife Federation competition in the mammal category and awards several times in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.

Their work has been published in National Geographic, Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy and Geo of Germany magazines.

Pieces by the pair have been displayed at National Geographic Society Headquarters in Washington, D.C., the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh and Los Glaciares National Park in Patagonia, Argentina.

In addition, the United States Postal Service used one of their images as the international airmail stamp for many years, according to the release.

Momatiuk and Eastcott have published six books together, including "Face to Face with Penguins," listed by the National Science Foundation as an outstanding science book in 2009.

The pair live in Hurley. To contact them, call (845) 338-4260, e-mail eastcott@sprintmail.com or visit their website, www.wildplacesphoto.com.

Also new on display at the gallery is work by sculptor Anthony Krauss, a silver medallion winner at the Internazionale Dell'Arte Contemporanea in Florence, Italy.

The gallery is located at 736 State Highway 28 South in Oneonta.
