Tim Grimm and Ben Bedford

The Tall Trees, Tim Grimm and Ben Bedford,two highly acclaimed Midwestern songwriters, accompanied by  Diederik van Wassenaer on fiddle, will perform at 7:30 tonight at 6 On the Square in Oxford.

Grimm grew up in the woods and small town settings of southern Indiana, son of school teachers and grandson of farmers. He has spent years on stage performing in movies, TV series and plays. Based in tradition, his music and lyrics border the line between Americana and country and each of his past five recordings have reached the top of the Folk or American-roots charts, according to a media release. His recording, “The Back Fields” was named Best Americana Album in the 2006 Just Plain Folks Music Awards in Los Angeles. He was named 2000’s “Best Discovery in Roots/Americana Music” by The Chicago Sun-Times, and “2004 Male Artist of The Year” by the Freeform American Roots DJs.

Bedford was named one of the “50 most significant Folk singer-songwriters of the past 50 years” by Rich Warren of WFMT radio in Chicago. Bedford has played for audiences all over the United States. His music is described on his website as “narrative folk music that introduces the characters of America. His songs include intriguing sketches of America, its individuals, their victories and their struggles.” With three albums to his credit, Bedford’s songs tackle scenarios including homelessness, the plight of a Confederate soldier’s wife during the American Civil War, the aerial triumphs of Amelia Earhart, the life of Jack London, the murder of Emmett Till in 1955, John the Baptist, and many more.

Accompanying the two singers will be van Wassenaer, a classically trained violinist who soaked in the sounds of bluegrass in Nashville, according to the release.

Tickets are available at the pre-show discounted price of $12, plus a $2 service charge, or $15 at the door. Ticket price for students, younger than age 18, are always $2; call to make a student reservation. Doors open one-hour before show time.
