Oneonta school budget vote set
The Oneonta City School District Board of Education recently approved its 2011-12 budget to go before voters in May, according to business manager Lisa Weeks. The meeting was held Wednesday at Greater Plains Elementary School.
The spending plan calls for spending of $33,158,934, a 1.84 percent reduction from the current budget. The estimated tax levy increase would be 2.89 percent.
A reduction of 13.3 full time equivalency positions was required to close the budget gap, she said. Because of declining enrollments, no programs will be eliminated.
Voting will be from noon to 9 p.m. May 17 at Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center.
W. Winfield woman arrested
A West Winfield woman was arrested Monday following an investigation into her report that her vehicle was stolen from her residence.
Debra L. Gardner, 45, was arrested for third-degree falsely reporting an incident and making a punishable false written statement, both misdemeanors, deputies said.
On Feb. 23, she contacted deputies and said a relative took her vehicle without permission, deputies said. She was interviewed at her home and gave what turned out to be a false written statement, deputies said.
An investigation revealed that Gardner told her cousin to put gas in her SUV and say he was in a motor vehicle accident after he picked it up, deputies said. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Plainfield Town Court.
