Accused Bainbridge shooter John M. Guzy was indicted Thursday on 17 counts, including murder and attempted murder in the second degree, according to multiple news sources.
Guzy allegedly shot and killed Derek D. Prindle, 26, and wounded Prindle's father, Derek, 60, both of Afton, on Oct. 27 in Bainbridge.
The Norwich Evening Sun reported Friday that the charges handed down by a Chenango County Grand Jury included assault, criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, tampering with physical evidence and driving while intoxicated, in addition to the murder and attempted murder charges.
The confrontation between Guzy and the Prindles has been characterized as a "road rage" incident. State police Capt. James Barnes told The Daily Star in October that “We know there was a dispute on the road that led both parties into the parking lot (of Peak Fitness on state Route 7), where a physical altercation and the shooting took place.”
Guzy is being held at the same Chenango County Jail where he was employed at the time of the shooting. WBNG reported that, when asked how Guzy could be held in the jail where he was employed, Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting said there is no problem since the accused murderer is being held in isolation.
Guzy, who is a retired police officer from New York City, is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Dec. 5.
