Brewery Ommegang will host a special Firepit Friday this week to help a local fire department and emergency rescue service.

Firepit Fridays are held every week during the summer, and feature music, beer and a firepit, but the event Friday, July 12, will benefit the Milford Volunteer Fire Department and EMS.

"I would say Firepit Fridays are usually a well-attended event," said Allison Capozza, the marketing communications manager at Brewery Ommegang, "but this one is a special one. This is the only one that is a fundraiser."

Although the brewery and concert venue is located in the town of Middlefield, it is only a few miles from the village and town of Milford. Volunteers from the Milford VFD and EMS are often helping Ommegang during summer events, leading to the company to want to give something back, according to Capozza.

"This group has volunteered their time and expertise at each and every major brewery event for the past several years and as a thank you, we’re dedicating this week’s event to them, and collecting a suggested $25 donation for the squad," Capozza said.

The $25 donation will also net a cigar, courtesy of the Cooperstown Cigar Company, and two tickets for beers.

Capozza said Ommegang always makes a donation to the squad itself, but with fewer events at the brewery this summer than most years, the idea of a public fundraiser gained steam a few months ago.

"We wanted to find other ways to support them,"  she said.

Charlie and the Roomers will play music from 7 to 10 p.m. and food will be served until 9 p.m.
