An Otsego County grand jury has decided not to issue an indictment against a Burlington man arrested by Otsego County sheriff’s deputies last December on weapons charges.

The charges filed by the police against Todd Hovick, 44, a former Burlington town court justice, in December were dismissed when the grand jury determined that “under the circumstances he didn’t deserve to be charged with a felony,” District Attorney John Muehl said.

Police had reported that Hovick removed a loaded pistol from the scene of an accidental, non-life threatening shooting involving a family member when he dialed 911 to summon medical help. Authorities said that, at the time, Hovick was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
