Motorcycle riders with the Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Memorial Torch Ride will make a special stop Saturday in Burlington Flats to honor an Otsego County soldier who was killed in action while fighting in Iraq 10 years ago.
Michael Mayne, a 2006 graduate of Edmeston Central School, served as a cavalry scout with the 1st Stryker Brigade combat team, 25th Infantry. He was killed on Feb. 23, 2009, at the age of 21, while on patrol near Baghdad.
His parents, Cathy and Lee, will be presented the Memorial Plaque of Distinguished Service by the riders during a 4:30 p.m. ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Burlington Flats.
Each year, riders embark on a 22-day cross-country motorcycle ride to escort the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Flame from Eugene, Oregon to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
