Fire damages Oneonta home

A fire on Winney Hill Road in Oneonta on Wednesday, Nov. 27 caused heavy damage to the back of a home, but no injuries.

The fire occurred at 290 Winney Hill Road, Oneonta Fire Chief Patrick Pidgeon said. The residents weren’t home at the time of the fire and a neighbor called to report it just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, he said.

Pidgeon said the residents were notified and that the cause of the fire is under investigation. The backside of the home into the kitchen was heavily damaged, he said.

The Oneonta Fire Department was assisted by the West Oneonta Fire Department and Franklin Fire Department FAST team. The Otego Fire Department, Pindars Corners Fire Department and Laurens EMS were on standby, he said.
