A frost advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to 8 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to fall sharply after sunset today, with clear skies and with light winds. Readings by sunrise Friday are expected to be well down into the 30s across much of central New York.

Areas of frost are expected across the central Southern Tier, with patchy frost developing over the colder spots in the Finger Lakes and Susquehanna regions.

A frost advisory is issued when widespread frost is expected to develop and cause damage to sensitive plants and crops. People with agricultural or gardening interests in the advisory area should harvest or protect tender vegetation. Potted plants normally left outdoors should be covered or brought inside.
