A barn fire in Gilbertsville kept local fire crews busy for almost three hours Monday, according to an emergency dispatcher.
No one was injured in the blaze, the Otsego County 911 dispatcher said. The barn, located on Halbert Hill Road, was “a machinery-type of structure,” not a cattle barn, so no animals were present, she said.
A passerby reported the fire about 10 minutes before 4 p.m., according to the dispatcher. Crews from Gilbertsville, Morris, Mount Upton and South New Berlin were at the scene, along with Otsego County Fire Coordinators.
Kevin Ritton, the county's emergency services coordinator, did not return phone messages by 10 p.m. Monday.
The Gilbertsville Fire Department also had its ambulance at the scene, according to the dispatcher. The dispatcher said she did not know if a cause of the fire had been determined.
