ONEONTA _ Freshman and transfer students will be arriving in Oneonta today, and upperclassmen on Sunday, to prepare for Hartwick College's start of classes Tuesday.
Hartwick, a private liberal arts college, enrolls about 1,500 students.
Today, students new to the campus will lunch on Frisbee Field, and opening convocation will be at 3:30 p.m. in Lambros Arena.
A media release from the college said the ceremony will include a procession of students, faculty, staff and administrators and remarks by college President Margaret L. Drugovich.
Orientation also includes placement testing and sessions about student code.
The lineup of activities for the weekend includes entertainment, sports activities, dances and a "Slice of Oneonta Pizza Fest."
This year, about 30 percent of Hartwick's class of 2015 is from outside New York state, compared to 22 percent last year. Students are from 29 states, and 17 new students are from 14 foreign countries.
Students at the State University College at Oneonta started classes Aug. 24.
