Delaware County deputies said a home health aide was arrested after stealing a credit card from an elderly person in her care.
According to a media release, Brandi A. Wyckoff, 31, Delhi, was arrested on Feb. 1 and charged with the class E felony of fourth-degree grand larceny and three misdemeanor counts of petit larceny.
Wyckoff, who was employed as a home health care aide for an ailing, elderly Delhi resident between August and October 2019, was arrested after an investigation into the theft of the elderly victim’s credit card and a number of credit card transactions, totaling more than $1,000, the release said.
Wyckoff was arraigned at the town of Delhi Court and released on her own recognizance pending further court action.
Sheriff Craig DuMond said he encourages those seeking private home health care assistance, along with their families, to thoroughly research and vet prospective individual care providers, request a list of references from care provider and then spend time talking with those references prior to deciding on employing a particular care provider. Additional guidance and resources are available through the Delaware County Office for the Aging by calling 607-832-5750, the release said.
