An East Branch man was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 18, on charges of endangering the welfare of a 6-year-old child.
Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond said Joshua Gardepe, 34, allegedly grabbed the child by the arm, causing pain and minor bruising.
Gardepe was arrested at about 1 p.m. following an investigation of a report of child maltreatment in the town of Hancock, according to a media release by the county sheriff's office. Gardepe appears to be the child's paternal aunt's boyfriend, DuMond said.
The office received a complaint from a Department of Social Services caseworker on Sept. 17. According to DuMond, the incident occurred Sept. 15 while the child was at his father's house for visitation. The child informed his mother of what happened when she came to pick him up, and she reported it to the Department of Social Services.
An order of protection has been issued for the child, DuMond said. Gardepe was arraigned Colchester Town Court and is scheduled to appear at town of Hancock Court at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
