The city of Oneonta Recreation Department announced Tuesday that the portable ice rink in Neahwa Park has been opened in the large pavilion at the park for the 2020 winter season.

City officials said in a media release that they hope the move will allow for more skating days and nights by providing cover during winter storms.

Officials encourage ice skaters to watch for weather updates on the Recreation Department's Facebook page or by calling the parks information line at 607-432-7997 for updates on ice skating conditions and possible rink closures before going to the rink.

Ice hockey is not allowed on the rink because of its small size.

Rink hours are 9 a.m. top 8:30 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. top 7:30 p.m. weekends and holidays. There is a restroom available at the location. Questions may be directed to Louise Lansing by calling the Recreation Department office at 607-432-0680, or by email at
