The process of selecting a new superintendent for the Oneonta City School district could be completed by March, according to an official involved with the process. The position is currently held by interim Superintendent David Rowley.

A permanent replacement is scheduled to start July 1. The position was vacated when Michael Shea retired last year.

The Oneonta City School Board is being assisted in the search by Otsego Northern Catskills Board of Cooperative Educational Services District Superintendent Nicholas Savin.

Applications are due by Jan. 25, Savin said. The salary range is $135,000 to $150,000. Savin said he will review the candidates and the board of education will meet with selected applicants in February. The community and staff will be involved with the selection process, but the board has to determine the details. The goal is to have a decision by the end of March, he said.

Rowley said among the criteria the board is seeking in a candidate are five years of experience as superintendent, a proven record as an educational leader and extensive experience in school budgets and finance.
