COOPERSTOWN — A man lying on Route 28 last week was struck by a vehicle whose driver kept going but was later located by police, Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin Jr. said Tuesday.

Devlin said the pedestrian who was struck, Michael Miller, 32, of Cooperstown, was admitted to Bassett Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries following the incident, which took place at about 1:25 a.m. Feb. 26.

The driver, identified only as a local resident, did not pull over because, she told deputies, she believed she had struck debris, according to the sheriff.

Devlin noted that Miller had several shopping bags with him when he apparently lain down in the road. The mishap occurred near the Pepper Mill restaurant.

The driver was located after deputies located a piece of her vehicle near the spot where Miller was hit, and began interviewing people who had been in the area.

Devlin did not identify the woman, noting no charges are expected to be brought against her.
