A bicyclist was struck and killed by a drunken driver Saturday in the town of Columbus.
Martin Logsdon Jr., 30, of Sherburne, was pronounced dead at the scene by deputies from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, who responded to state Route 80 shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a media release.
The driver of the vehicle, Allen R. Emrich, 49, of New Berlin, was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular manslaughter, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 of 1% and endangering the welfare of a child.
Emrich was arraigned in Columbus Town Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the release.
