Schools have been given flexibility in administering Regents exams and Regents Competency Tests because of this week’s winter storm, the state Department of Education announced Monday.

“This one-time change, made after consulting with our colleagues in the field, is intended to ensure the safety of all students and school employees while preserving the integrity of the State exams,” the department said in a media release.

Exams rescheduled because of the weather must be completed by the end of the school day Friday.

School and district leaders will be required to send the department a description of the date(s) on which schools were closed due to weather, which January Regents Exams and RCTs had to be canceled, when they plan to administer the tests, and a comprehensive plan to ensure the security of exams and scoring materials during this time period.
