U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., is introducing legislation to preserve door-to-door mail delivery service for the U.S. Postal Service, a media release said Tuesday.

Schumer said he also supports another bill for a two-year moratorium on closing rural post offices, a proposal that includes facilities in Portlandville in Otsego County, Fishs Eddy in Delaware County, North Pitcher in Chenango County, Charlotteville and North Blenheim in Schoharie County and Van Hornesville in Herkimer County.

The moratorium would allow time for study, he said.
