Storm cuts power to thousands in area
The biggest problem from the thunderstorms that passed through the area Wednesday were power outages, emergency dispatchers said at about 9 p.m.
In Chenango County, where New York State Electric & Gas reported 1,600 people were without power, a dispatcher said there were no major problems from the storm. In Delaware County, about 2,400 NYSEG customers were without power. A dispatcher said there were some road closures and downed lines in the county. In Otsego County where NYSEG reported 2,345 without power, a dispatcher said falling trees caused outages, mostly in the western part of the county.
NYSEG field customer service representative Ann Carnrike said the hardest hit areas include Cooperstown, Gilbertsville, Delhi, Downsville and Walton. Crews will be working around the clock until power is restored, she said. If anyone sees downed lines, they should stay away and call 800-572-1131.
