A student at the State University College at Oneonta has been found dead in his off-campus apartment.
Mark DeRoziere, 22, of Schoharie, was found unresponsive sometime after 9 p.m. Thursday by another student, a media release from the college said.
Oneonta police and emergency responders from the Fire Department responded and declared DeRoziere dead at the scene, the release said.
The college said it had informed DeRoziere’s family and housemates about his death.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mark DeRoziere,” college President Nancy Kleniewski said in a statement. “The sympathy of our entire community is with his family and friends.”
Sgt. Ralph Pajerski of the Oneonta Police Department said the death did not appear to be suspicious.
“There was no evidence of foul play,” he said.
Police found “numerous medications” for depression, he said, leading them to think the death was an accidental or deliberate overdose.
He said a autopsy was being performed.
