A tornado watch is in effect for Chenango, Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties – and much of the rest of the state.
The NWS issued the watch at 2:20 p.m. today and it is slated to be in effect until 10 p.m. tonight.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely later this afternoon into the evening. Some of the storms could be severe and bring hail and heavy winds to the region, according to the National Weather Service in Binghamton.
A tornado watch means severe weather capable of spawning tornados is possible.
