Two men were arrested Monday in connection with burglarizing the home of one man’s relative, Otsego County deputies said.

Cory Andrew Barlow, 24, of Otego, and Michael Shawn Bennett, 33, of Oneonta, were charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor, deputies said in a media release Tuesday.

On Monday, the Otsego County Probation Department received information that Barlow’s relative’s residence in Otego had been burglarized during the weekend when occupants were away. About 100 DVDs were stolen and recovered, he release said.

Probation officer Timothy De Forest contacted Sheriff’s Office investigators, and after a joint investigation, the men were arrested, the release said. Parole officers from Utica assisted the local agencies.

The defendants were arraigned in Otego Town Court before Judge Ronald Decker on Monday night, deputies said. Bennett was sent to jail on $500 bail and Barlow was released on recognizance, and both men are to re-appear in court Thursday night.

If convicted, they each could face up to 15 years in prison, deputies said.
