OPD searching for two missing girls

Update, 3:42 p.m.: According to the police department the girls were found at the Southside Mall about 20 minute ago.

Oneonta Police Chief Douglas Brenner said an OPD detective sergeant was searching the mall when he spotted the girls. Brenner said he could not provide the girls' names because they are underage.

The girls were apparently supposed to go to one of their houses but decided to go to the mall instead, Brenner said. OPD is still looking into how the girls got to the mall, he said.

3 p.m.: The Oneonta Police Department is attempting to locate two 10-year-old girls, according to an alert from the department.

Both are described as white females with blonde/light colored hair. A photograph of one of the girls is attached; the second will be added when available, according to the alert. One girl is wearing a pink coat with fur and gray pants, the other is wearing a purple coat with pink leggings, the alert said.

One of the females is believed to be carrying a large bag.
