Electronic music fans and party people: prepare. Brought to you once again by FUSE EDM and Blckligght Productions, the BungaWiz Music and Arts Festival will be returning July 28 to 30 at Edgewood Mountain in Laurens for its second year.
BungaWiz has many missions, according to organizers, but the one that stands out is its dedication to local business and industries. Their philosophy is that “the world is built on communities, and the cornerstone of positive and vibrant change begins right at home. The homegrown philosophy supports New York companies, workers, residents, and nonprofits coming together to make this festival a place of pure bliss for visitors from all around the world."
To that end, this year's lineup is staying closer to home than last year. Headlining artists include Pyrotechnik, Nate Mannix, Ryan Bronson and Red Squad. The rest of the lineup is stacked with many local hip-hop artists and electronic producers, including a few SUNY Oneonta alumni.
John Noble, a SUNY Oneonta grad, will be providing sound support for Bungawiz at various stages and will be DJing. Matthew Weisshaupt aka "Father Figure," another SUNY Oneonta graduate, will also be performing. He has been performing and producing for three years now, having started out DJing at Therapy in Oneonta, climbed the ladder of the bass and trap scene on the East Coast, and now performing at electronic events and various music festivals such as Camp Bisco and Down To Earth Festival.
The BungaWiz 2016 lineup featured more than 70 artists and multiple genres of music from EDM to hip-hop to jam bands. Headliners included Caked Up, Sound Remedy, Victor Niglio and Haterade. In addition to electronic, the festival also featured bands such as local favorite Space Carnival. After last year's success, BungaWiz has started putting more work into the other areas of the festival.
This year, concertgoers will be offered the options of a Slip N' Slide, laser tag, flip cup and beer pong tournaments, paint workshop, arts and crafts, body painting, glow volleyball, kickball, dodgeball, glow horseshoes, body marbling, the ever-popular disk golf, DIY hippie truck decals, morning yoga sessions, and a scavenger hunt.
A full lineup for music can be found on the BungaWiz Facebook Page. Options include solo General Admission passes for $40, as well as day passes for $20 per day. Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.
