Moogfest

Moogfest  2016 kicks off the summer in the streets of Durham, NC to celebrate the present and future of electronic music culture, technology, and art.

Since 2004 Moogfest has celerated the legacy of Bob Moog, an engineer who worked in partnership with artists to invent new creative tools, Moogfest reimagines the tech conference and music festival by taking the best of both formats to create a completely new type of experience. Hailed as “a sci-fi dance party with a Ph.D. in STEM” by The New York Times, Moogfest 2016 will gather more than 250 technologists, musicians, and artists -- from DZA to Odesza , Grimes and Gary Numan to Jaron Lanier and Dr. Martine Rothblatt -- to explore new technologies that are pushing the boundaries of creative expression.

However, its more than just music. It digs down deep into many aspects of the electronic world.  North Carolina State University  will conduct a workshop on Virtual Reality ,where participants will prototype content , and then experience their designs in 3D using an Oculus Rift.

Moogfest 2016 will also feature Inter Species Collaboration. Exploring music generated from plants’ communication with virtual synths and sample based environments while artists from Data Garden share their new software that produces bio-generated digital art. In addition, there will be hundreds of other features scattered amongst  downtown Durham.

Pertaining to North Carolinas recent “House Bill 2”  , Moogfest  CEO Adam Katz is doing what he can to combat it. In a recent interview with Huffington Post Katz said “We are taking every step possible to ensure that Moogfest remains a safe and welcoming space for all festival-goers, especially the many LGBTQ artists and speakers joining us this year. We will do this by both designating gender neutral bathrooms and dedicating spaces for education and dialogue around the issue of LGBT discrimination.  “
