It has been nearly two years since my prose last infested these pages, and I wouldn’t be inflicting it upon you now if I didn’t have something important to write.

Mark Boshnack is running for Oneonta’s Common Council in Ward 6, and to say that he is extraordinarily qualified would be a major understatement.

I have known Mark for more than 20 years, including 18 when we were colleagues at The Daily Star. You learn a lot about a person over all that time, and I can wholeheartedly vouch for Mark’s integrity and character. Ask any superintendent or principal at the schools he covered, and they will praise his combination of wisdom, compassion and fairness.

Mark’s work-ethic and energy are amazing. It was a common occurrence for him to be working on three or four stories near deadline only to have me tell him that I would have to add to his burden with yet another story to do. He would unfailingly accept it with a smile and produce yet another quality effort. He will take that same can-do attitude to the Common Council when his constituents bring up matters important to them.

A devoted father and husband, Mark Boshnack is a very good man who would be a credit to Oneonta’s Common Council.

On the subject of Marks, Mark Drnek is a Common Council candidate in the Eighth Ward. I’ve known Mark as an occasional colleague and softball teammate and have admired his Sweet Home Productions publications and website. He loves Oneonta, and would make a fine council member.

Let’s elect these two outstanding people so they can make their “marks” on Oneonta’s future.
