Softball reunion is Saturday

The Boreali’s Softball Club is organizing a reunion for all former players Saturday at the Central Bridge Civic Association ballpark.

Players are asked to bring gloves and memorabilia for a display. Items from the 2003 ASA national championship in Pennsylvania, the five-time NYS masters titles and the 1972 Oneonta Fast-Pitch crown are of special interest.

Edgewood to host tournament

Edgewood Golf in Laurens will host the Golf/Archery Face-Off at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Participants will complete nine holes of golf and nine holes of archery in a captain-and-mate format. Players may compete in golf or archery only.

Oneonta soccer tryouts Sunday

Tryouts for the Oneonta Soccer Club will take place Sunday at the Wright National Soccer Campus.

Tryout times are as follows: 8-and-under 9:30 a.m.; U10 10:30 a.m.; U12 11:30 a.m.; U14 12:30 p.m.; U16 1 p.m.; U19 2 p.m.

Hall film festival to run Sept. 19-21

The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host its ninth annual Film Festival from Sept. 19-21.

Films will shown during several blocks throughout the weekend in the Bullpen Theater. A complete list of the films will be released later this month.

Sidney Hall inductions Sept. 20

Tickets are available for the Sidney Alumni Sports Hall of Fame Induction Dinner and Ceremony, which will be held Sept. 20 at Sidney America Legion Post 183 on Union Street.

Delzon “Del” Hodges (Class of 1961), Roxanne “Roxy” Birdsall Olmstead (1971), Richard “Rick” Mirabito (1976) and Gerard “Jeri” Mirabito (1979) will be inducted. Additionally, the 1983 field hockey team that advanced to the state title game will be recognized.

Pit Pasta Dinner set for Oct. 4

The annual Pit Pasta Dinner will run from 4:30-8 p.m. Oct. 4 at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

The all-you-can-eat dinner, set for the night before the 21st annual Pit Run, is open to the public and features pasta, sauce, meatballs, salad, bread and fruit.

Cost is $7 for adults, $4 for youths ages 6-12, and free for youths ages 5 and under.

Pit Run scheduled for Oct. 5

The 21st annual Pit Run will start at 10:45 a.m. Oct. 5 on Main Street in Oneonta.

The event features a USATF-certified 10-kilometer race, a 5K run and a 2-mile stroll.

Cost to enter the 10K is $27 online, $32 via mail and $35 the day of the race. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top male and female ($600 apiece); second overall ($300), third overall ($100), fourth overall ($75) and fifth overall ($50); male and female course records ($200 apiece); and male and female age-group course records ($50 apiece).

Cost to enter the 5K is $24 online, $29 via mail and $30 the day of the race.

Cost to enter the 2-mile stroll is $20 online and $25 via mail and on race day.

Early entry fees include a T-shirt and Brooks’ chicken after the races, which will end in Neahwa Park.

Race-day registration runs from 8-10:15 a.m. Oct. 5.

All proceeds will benefit the Ricky J. Parisian Scholarship Foundation. The Pit Run is held in memory of Parisian, a state trooper who was killed in 1994 while trying to stop an armed robbery in progress at an Oneonta grocery store.
