Outdoors hall to honor area man

Otsego County resident Larry Steiner is part of the NYS Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame's 12-man Class of 2015, the organization announced Friday.

Steiner has served the Adirondack-Catskill Chapter of the Safari Club and is has contributed financial and physical support to dozens of major projects, according to a media release. These include Hunters Against Hunger, Safari Wheels, Venison Donation and National Archery in Schools Program.

Steiner also sponsored several youth and handicapped special hunts and has been key to sending women and youths to SCI leadership education camps.

The hall also will induct Oswego County's Chuck Parker, Dave Simmons and Bill Wilbur; Erie County's Frank Miskey Jr. and Al Reigle; Gordon Batcheller of Rensselaer County; Bill Lansley of Onondaga County; Leo Roth of Monroe County; and John Wulff of Sullivan County.

Two will be honored posthumously in the Pioneer Category as Joe Jemiolo of Erie County and Lee Wulff of Sullivan County will be inducted.

The Class of 2015 will be inducted during the annual NYSOHOF banquet April 25 at the Rusty Rail in Canastota. Their plaques will be displayed at the NYSOHOF Museum in Vail Mills.

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m. April 25, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and presentations to follow.

Little League registration tonight

Oneonta Little League will hold sign-ups for the 2015 season from 6-7:30 p.m. today and Tuesday at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

All players ages 7-12 as of April 30 must register, including returning players. Players ages 10-12 who are not on a major league team must try out.

A $50 fee is required at registration. Financial assistance is available to those who need it.

First-year participants must bring one proof-of-age document, such as a birth certificate, as well as three or more documents showing the address of the legal residence of the parent(s) or court-appointed guardian(s). These may include a driver's license, a utility bill, and a financial record. Three utility bills count as one proof.

OLL also will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at the 6th Ward Athletic Club.

Golf leagues to meet

Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will hold organizational meetings for its Tuesday Night Men's League on March 31 and for its Wednesday Night Men's League on April 1.

Both leagues are open to the public and feature two-man teams. A one-time dues fee of $25 is required. Greens fees cost $7 per week.
