Pitcher Kori Thornton had nine strikeouts and two walks to lead the visiting Bainbridge-Guilford softball team to a 7-0 win against Sidney on Wednesday.

Sidney's Olivia DeMott struck out 10 batters and walked one. Alyssa Hawkins and Mackensie Gravelin each hit singles for Sidney.

''They made a lot of nice plays defensively,'' said Sidney coach Mike Brazee of B-G. Sidney (1-1) next plays Deposit on April 17.

Megan Palmatier had two hits for B-G, which had seven hits. The Bobcats (4-0), also got two hits from Jillian Cannistra and a double from Kassidy Davy.

Margaretville 22, SK 4

Emily Baker had three hits, teammates Kristena Westerfield and Katelynn Shamro each had two hits, and visiting Margaretville beat South Kortright on Wednesday.

Westerfield struck out eight batters and earned the win for Margaretville, which scored 11 runs in the first inning, one run in the second and 10 runs in the fourth.

Shamro hit a double for Margaretville (2-0), which visits Davenport for a league game at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Brittany Logan had a double for SK, which scored two runs in the second and fifth innings.

Deposit 21, Delhi 0

Freshman leadoff hitter Mikayla Martin went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a two-run double in the fourth inning, to lead host Deposit to a league win over Delhi on Wednesday.

''She's off to a great start,'' said Deposit coach Dan Briggs of Martin. ''I told her in the winter of her eighth grade year, she was going to be my leadoff hitter for the next five years.''

Martin had three RBIs, and Mackenzie Stiles earned the win for Deposit (2-0), which hosts Harpursville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. 

Downsville 18, Walton 4

The Eagles' Kacie Banker had nine strikeouts, and Downsville earned a non-league win at home on Wednesday. Banker had three RBIs for the Eagles, which scored 13 runs between the fourth and the sixth innings.

Bethan Brown went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the win, and teammate Luccia Martucci went 1-for-2 at the plate. Carissa Crandall had nine strikeouts and two hits for Walton.

Downsville (1-0) visits Gilboa for a league game at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.

Laurens 15, RS 10

Laurens' Rachelle Soucia had five strikeouts and went 3-for-5 at the plate, and the Leopards earned a home win on Wednesday. 

Kayla Johnson and Kayla Barra each had two hits and a double for the Leopards, which led 7-0 going into the fourth. Soucia also hit a double and a triple in the victory.

Katie Swartout went 3-for-3 for Richfield Springs. Laurens (2-0) hosts Franklin for a league game at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.


Davenport/Delhi 7, Stamford 0 

Quinn McKeegan picked up a win in first singles as Davenport/Delhi cruised to a Delaware League shutout win at home.

Alex Haight and Danny Rolfe each earned singles victories with the score, 9-2. Teammates Dorothy Zeisler and Jasper Koota each won 9-0 to also win their matches at third and fourth singles..

Miles Philion and Ryan Finne won 9-0 at first doubles to secure the final match victory for Davenport/Delhi.

Davenport/Delhi (3-0) will host Roxbury for a league game at 4 p.m. Thursday.


Oneonta beats Windsor

Against visiting Windsor on Thursday, both Oneonta High School's boys and girls track and field teams earned wins. The boys beat Windsor, 83-57, and the girls won, 82-58. 

For the boys, OHS' Jon Miller won both the 1,600-meter run (4:54.4) and the 3,200-meter run (11:18.8). Max Orgeron won the 800-meter run (2:09.6) in the win, and teammate Andrew Morell won the 400-hurdles (1:06.1).

For the girls, Emilia French won the long jump (15-9), the triple jump (33-3 1/2) and the 400-hurdles (1:13.0).

OHS' Samantha van der Sommen earned first place in the high jump (4-10), and teammate Nova Otieno won the discus (81-5).
