Cella Schnabel scored eight of her game-high 13 points in the third quarter to lead host Delhi to a 40-27 non-league win over Marathon in the Bulldogs’ first game of the season Saturday, Nov. 29.

“She gave us great energy in the third quarter,” Delhi coach Todd Bruce said of Schnabel.

The Bulldogs led, 16-10, at halftime, and outscored the Olympians, 17-6, in the third quarter.

Sylvia Liddle contributed six points and team highs of eight assists, five steals and four blocks for Delhi, which took a 33-16 advantage into the fourth quarter.

“Overall, I thought we played great defense which led to limiting Marathon to single-digit scoring throughout three quarters,” said Bruce, whose team finished with 22 steals and six blocks.

Riley Mason recorded six points and Alanna Ruchar tallied four along with a team-high nine rebounds for Delhi (1-0).

Brooke Tillotson registered a team-high 11 points and Kristi Walley finished with eight points for Marathon (0-1).

Delhi will host Duanesburg in the first round of the Bulldogs’ annual tip-off tournament at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. Cooperstown and Sidney will face off in the other first-round game at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

BOWLING

Frank Wilsey had a high game of 207 and the match’s high series of 546 to lead the visiting Cooperstown boys team to a win over Little Falls on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

The Hawkeyes earned a 4-0 team decision and also received a 400 series with a high game of 152 from Jason Furnari.

Lindsey Storey had a high game of 125 but the Cooperstown girls team fell to Little Falls, 3-1.

Cooperstown hosts New York Mills at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Chandler Congdon contributed a high game of 169 and a high series of 432 for the Little Falls boys while Rebecca Loring finished with a high game of 124 for the girls team.
