Oneonta's Chris Catan and Delhi's Alex Haight both advanced out of the Class C-D East singles' section tournament.

The duo moved on to the east-west crossover playoff, scheduled for May 14 at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

Catan (14-0) moved easily through his matches, beginning with a bye as the top seed in the tournament. In the second round he defeated Susquehanna Valley's Simon Bange, 6-0, 6-0.

Catan defeated Chenango Valley's Carter Wilson, again 6-0, 6-0, before finally dropping a game on Thursday in a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Roxbury's Brandon Reidlinger in his final match.

"He has just gotten stronger and stronger," Oneonta coach Phyllis Orlowski said of Catan, who is looking to return to the state tournament.

Haight faced a slightly more difficult path, emerging from the middle of the bracket's bottom half. On Wednesday, he defeated Roxbury's Christian Spariosu, 6-3, 6-1, before defeating Bainbridge-Guilford's Jared Pruskowski 6-2, 6-1.

Haight moved on with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Branden Whitaker before defeating Nick Boeker of Chenango Forks, 6-3, 4-6, 6-6 (7-3) in his final match. Boeker was the only player other than Catan to enjoy a first-round bye.

Windham's Tenjing Sherpa also advanced to the third round, defeating Greene's River McCumiskey and Delhi's Brandon Bodo. He fell to Reidlinger, 6-0, 6-4.

In doubles play, Windham's Zach Burpee and Alejandro Chavarria also moved into the crossover. The duo opened play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dylan Becker and Mike Mazzarella of Sidney before taking down Catherine Jankowski and Myah Johnston of Roxbury in the second round.

A 6-4, 6-2 win over Kevin Gyurik and Spencer Klumpp of Greene put the team into its final match against Delhi's Danny Rolfe and Hunter Sanford.

Delhi also had a team in the other fourth-round match, but Miles Philion and Jasper Koota fell to Susquehanna Valley's top-seeded team of Mason Spottek and Cody Jacobs.
