Soccer club tryouts set for Sunday

The Oneonta Soccer Club will hold tryouts for the 2012-13 travel soccer season Sunday at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta.

Tryouts are open to all age-eligible boys and girls in the greater Oneonta area.

Under-8 (Born after July 31, 2004 and before Aug. 1, 2006): Registration, 10-10:30 a.m.; Tryout, 10:30 a.m.

Under-10 (Born after July 31, 2002): Registration, 10:30-11 a.m.; Tryout, 11 a.m.

Under-12 (Born after July 31, 2000): Registration, 11-11:30 a.m.; Tryout, 11:30 a.m.

Under-14 (Born after July 31, 1998): Registration, 11:30-noon; Tryout, noon

Under-16 (Born after July 31, 1996): Registration, Noon-12:30 p.m.; Tryout, 12:30 p.m.

Under-18 Boys Premier (Born after July 31, 1994): Registration, 12:30-1 p.m.; Tryout, 1 p.m.

Under-19 (Born after July 31, 1994): Registration, 12:30-1 p.m.; Tryout, 1:30 p.m.

Punt, pass, kick events start Friday

The City of Oneonta and the SUNY Cobleskill Department of Sport & Exercise will host NFL Punt, Pass and Kick local qualifiers soon.

Ted Christman Field in Neahwa Park will host Oneonta’s local qualifier from 5-7 p.m. Friday, rain or shine.

SUNY Cobleskill also will hold a local qualifier at 6 p.m. Monday, with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the college’s field house.

There is no cost to participate. One boy and one girl in each of five age-groups will qualify to advance to sectionals, which will be held at Damaschke Field in Oneonta in October. Youths ages 6-15 are eligible but may enter only one local qualifier. Proof of age is required at registration.

Sectional winners may qualify for the Buffalo Bills Team Championship, which will take place Dec. 2 at Ralph Wilson Stadium before the Bills host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Youths competing in the Oneonta qualifier may register on the day of the event or in advance at the recreation office in Neahwa Park.

SUNY Delhi sets pool hours

SUNY Delhi’s pool hours for Monday through Sept. 30 are as follows:

Monday-Friday:

Lap Swim, 7-8 a.m.; 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; 6-7 p.m.; Open Swim, 7-9 p.m.

Saturday-Sunday:

Open Swim, 1-5 p.m.

The college’s swimming and diving team will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 12.

Fall registration for community swim lessons run from 8 a.m.-noon Sept. 15.

 Men’s bowling league starts tonight

The Thursday Night Men’s Bowling League begins tonight at Holiday Lanes in Oneonta.

The handicapped league, which is for men of all skill levels, is seeking full-time bowlers to start the season.

Golf tournament Saturday at Ouleout

 

The Milford Education Foundation’s fourth annual golf tournament will start at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in Franklin.

O-State baseball clinic Sunday

 

Oneonta State will host its annual fall high school baseball clinic from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday at Red Dragon Baseball Field.

Registration runs from 8-9 a.m. Cost is $75 per camper. Lunch is included.

The clinic, which is open only to high school players (classes of 2013-2016), will focus on offensive and primary position instruction in the morning and live game play in the afternoon.

Davenportpep rally Sept. 21

 

Davenport will hold its annual bonfire/pep rally at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 on the lower soccer field. The event is open to the public.

The opening round of the Chic Walshe Tournament will follow at 10 a.m. Sept. 22. The finals are slated for Sept. 29.

Davenport’s girls will play host to Morris, South Kortright and Worcester in the tournament. Davenport’s boys will compete for the tournament title against Cooperstown, South Kortright and Worcester.

Swimming lessons begin Sept. 22

 

SUNY Delhi will host swimming lessons from Sept. 22-Nov. 10.

The 45-minute lessons will run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 22 and 29; Oct. 13, 20 and 27; and Nov. 3 and 10. These dates are subject to change because of a potential conflict with college swim meets.

Classes include Red Cross Levels I-VI, Infant/Toddler/Preschool Group and Adult Classes & Diving.

Registration runs from 8 a.m.-noon Sept. 15 at SUNY Delhi’s Kunsela Hall Pool. Cost is $45 per swimmer and is due at registration.

The Delhi Swim Club will hold seven youth practices from noon-1 p.m. starting Sept. 22.

FAM 5K set for Sept. 22

 

The 19th annual FAM 5K “Fund” Run/Walk will start at 10 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds.

The event supports Schoharie County Community Action Program, a non-profit human service organization that has served Schoharie County residents since 1965.

The FAM 5K awards FAM Funds mutual fund shares to male and female winners in several age categories. Participants include 19-year race veterans, multigenerational families, professional racers and walkers of all ages.

The event features complimentary fruit, bagels, drinks and massage therapists for participants as well as a Kids’ Race.

SUNY Cobleskill golf tourney Sept. 28

 

The SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Booster Club will host its inaugural Fighting Tigers Club Golf Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 28 at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club as part of the college’s annual homecoming weekend festivities.

Cost to enter the two-person, best-ball tournament is $90 per person. Registration deadline is Sept. 14. The tournament field limited to 136 players.

Hall Film Festival to run Sept. 28-30

 

The seventh annual National Baseball Hall of Fame Film Festival returns to Cooperstown from Sept. 28-30.

The Hall will feature 14 films during the three-day event in the Grandstand and Bullpen theaters.

Tickets are free but must be reserved. Admission to the museum is required for films shown during regular hours.
