Sidney boy sets lifting records
Sidney resident Jordan Byrnes, 11, set two national age-group records in winning titles during the Raw Northeastern Bench Press and Deadlift Championships this past Saturday in Johnson City.
Competing in the 123-pound weight class for ages 10-11, Jordan benched 101 pounds to win the title and beat the previous national record of 77 pounds. He also broke the national 10-11 deadlift record by 25 pounds, with a lift of 145 pounds.
Jordan, who weighs 115 pounds, also holds four state lifting records. His father, Christopher Byrnes, holds two world records and three national records in the bench press.
Elks hoop shoot set for Saturday
The Oneonta Elks Lodge will be hold its annual Youth Hoop Shoot at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
The free-throw competition is open to boys and girls ages 8-13. Participants will be grouped by their ages as of April 1, 2012. Copies of birth certificates are required to register.

Softball pitching camp ends Sunday
The 2011 Oneonta Softball Pitching Camp will conclude Sunday at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.
Players ages 8-18 are eligible for the camp, which will group players according to ability (advanced, intermediate, beginner). The camp, which started in 2005, is run by Oneonta High softball coach Randy Brockway and John Seedborg.
Advanced and intermediate sessions are for youths ages 13-18 and cost $125 to attend both or $75 for one. The advanced session runs from 1:30-2:30 p.m., followed by the intermediate session from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

Sidney Hall inductions Nov. 26
The Sidney Central School Alumni Association will hold its 2011 Sports Hall of Fame Induction for 6:15 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Fire Training Center on River Street.
The ninth annual induction ceremony and dinner will start with a social hour at 5 p.m. Nov. 26. Tickets cost $25 each and are available from Sports HOF committee members Greg Davie, Tony Zieno, Dennis Porter, Wayne King, Bonnie Curtis, Larry Halbert, Doug Quinney, Mike Mason and Wendy Weidman. Glad Tidings and VEP of Sidney are also selling tickets.
The Class of 2011 is comprised of Loren "Moby" Collins (Class of 1951), Jon Jay DeTemple (1961), Noel Kobia (1965) and Susan Ferraro (1977). Sidney also will present its fifth annual Legacy Award to the members of its 1963 and 1964 baseball teams, who were undefeated Susquenango League Champions under Hall of Fame coach Al Drake.
Sidney also will host three games (old-timers, ladies, young guns) during its Alumni Basketball Night, which starts at 6 p.m. Nov. 25 in the new high school gym.
