Sparked by individual victories from Dustin Collins and Rory Davis, Cherry Valley-Springfield’s boys won the Section Four Class D track meet Wednesday at Marathon.
The Patriots finished with 112 points.
Collins won the 400-meter hurdles in his season-best time of 1 minute, 2.2 seconds. He also placed second in the triple jump, covering 41 feet, 4 inches.
Davis won the pole vault, clearing 10-6.
CV-S also received wins from its 400 and 1,600 relay teams. Denzel Heyliger, Isiah Montgomery, Nick Mills and Noah Russo won the 400 relay in 46.32. Montgomery, Ben Drugatz, Kyle Jaquay and Mills teamed to win the 1,600 relay in 3:40.8.
Also, CV-S’ 3,200 relay finished second in a school-record time of 8:46.3. Ben and Ethan Drugatz, Jaquay and Elijah Lyon ran on the squad that beat the old record by four seconds.
Montgomery contributed runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200, and Ben Drugatz finished second in the 400.
No other results from the meet were available.
Three other sectional class meets will be held today. Cooperstown will compete in the Section Three Class C meet at Remsen; Oneonta High will be at Windsor for the Section Four Class B meet; and the Section Four Class C meet will be held at Newark Valley.
Marathon 10, RS 1
Richfield Springs’ Nicholas Nicoletta hit an RBI double in the first inning, but No. 5 Marathon answered with five runs in the second en route to a Section Four Class D first-round win at home Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Jeff Contri struck out seven and walked none in a five-hitter.
Chris Young had two hits for the 12th-seeded Indians, who finished their season at 8-7.
Marathon (9-9) will travel to play fourth-seeded Stamford (13-2) at 4:30 today.
Sidney’s Nick Meno lost a pair of matches in the Section Four Class C-D East-West tournament Tuesday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
In the semifinals, Meno fell to Lansing’s Andy Parkes, 6-1, 6-0. Meno then was eliminated from the tournament with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Moravia’s Dustin Eshelman in the consolation match.
On Monday, Cooperstown had two singles players and one doubles team advance to the finals in the Section Three Class C-2 tournament at Utica Parkway.
At second singles, Cooperstown’s Jason Cadawalader defeated Westmoreland’s Connor Acee, 6-2, 6-4, in the semifinals. Cadwalader fell in the final to Bishop Grimes’ Grigoriy Belyaevskiy, 6-1, 6-3.
Will Cadwalader advanced to the final at third singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over LaFayette’s Eric Reed and a 6-3, 6-4 semifinal win over Alexandria Bay’s Parker Garlock. Will Cadwalader lost, 6-4, 7-6, to Bishop Grimes’ Dan Ostaszewski in the final.
Cooperstown’s second doubles team of Max Clinton and Andrew Von Tsurikov won its first two matches in straight sets before falling, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, to Poland’s Branden Garrett and Andrew Taverne in the final.
