Jordan Beers hit a grand slam to right-center in the second inning to lead host Franklin to a 21-6 Tri-Valley League victory over Worcester on Monday that clinched the West Division title for the Purple Devils.

Beers finished 3-for-6 with five RBIs for the Purple Devils, who clinched their first division crown since 2009, when it lost, 7-0, to Schenevus in the crossover final.

Jessie Terrano went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored for Franklin, which received two hits, two RBIs and five runs from Miranda Peck.

Haley Downin contributed a three-run triple in the 11-run third inning for the Purple Devils, who led, 16-3, after three innings.

Pitchers Natalie Downin and Angie Willert combined for a one-hitter. Willert struck out four and allowed three earned runs after relieving starter Natalie Downin in the first inning.

Karli Pochkar singled in the third inning for Worcester's hit.

Natalie Downin also had a double and two runs scored for Franklin (10-4, 9-4), which will play in the Tri-Valley League final Friday or Monday at Oneonta State, depending on field conditions.

Schenevus can clinch its fifth straight East Division title with a win at Gilbertsville-Mount Upton today. The Dragons hold a one-game lead over second-place Milford in the loss column.

Delhi 28, Unatego 12

Brittney Merriman hit a double and had four RBIs to lead visiting Delhi to a first-round victory in the 9-12 portion of the Midstate Athletic Conference mini-tournament.

Kacie Anderson contributed three hits for the Bulldogs (5-12), who were supposed to play at home but the game was moved to Unatego because of poor field conditions.

Keeanna Speenburgh went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Unatego, which received two hits from Shelby Beers and Jade Goodrich (three RBIs).

The Spartans (0-13) will play the loser of Unadilla Valley-Sidney game, today or Thursday.

Afton 9, Edmeston 8

The host Crimson Knights rallied for two runs in the sixth inning to win a non-league game.

Trailing, 8-7, winning pitcher Cameron Oswald singled with one in the sixth inning. He then stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch. Mark Viviano then reached on a error and stole second. He scored the winning run Joe Shearer's soft single to right.

Oswald walked four and hit two batters as Edmeston scored five runs in the first inning. He settled down thereafter and finished with 14 strikeouts.

Oswald and Shearer had two hits apiece for Afton (3-13), which plays host Oxford today in the MAC mini-tournament.

Tom Parker and Nate Truax each had two hits for Edmeston.

Collin Izard shot a five-over-par 39 to lead host Unadilla Valley to a 215-226 non-league victory over visiting Morris.

Levi Decker had birdie on the par-3 second hole en route to a 40 for the Mustangs (12-1, 6-0), who received a birdie on the par-4 eighth hole from Derrick Anderson.

Austin Glidden contributed a round of 42 for the Storm, who finish the season at 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the league.

MAC Steeplechase

Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton's Connor Fuller and Isamarie Ramos won their respective steeplechase races in the opening of the Midstate Athletic Conference Championships on Monday at Greene.

Fuller eased to victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing in 10:12.1. Teammates Adam Bauerle and Rob Burnett were second and third, respectively, in 11:15.1 and 11:24.43.

Unatego's Dan Kleeschulte placed fourth in 11:29.4.

Ramos won the 2,000-meter girls race in 7:42.9. Walton's Jesse Jacob and Kristine Reed finished second and third. Jacob crossed in a school-record time of 8:02.3, six seconds faster than Reed, who had held the school record. Reed set the previous mark of 8:07.8 at last season's Section Four Class C meet. Daphne Knapp of B-G/A was fourth in 8:08.5.

The pentathlon was also held Monday, with B-G/A's Russell Ross winning on the boys side and Oxford's Haley Witchella placing first in the girls competition.

Ross compiled 2,362 points. Witchella had 2,491.

The remainder of the MAC Championships will be Thursday at Delhi. Competition starts at 3:15 p.m.
