A nine-run third inning set the tone as Glens Falls battered the Oneonta pitching staff in a 24-11 win Wednesday at East Field.
Oneonta starter Jonathon Sylvester opened with two scoreless innings but did not make it out of the third inning as Glens Falls scored nine runs with Sylvester recording just one out. Brian Hart hit a grand slam to start the rally for the Dragons before two walks, a single and a triple helped bring in five more runs.
The Outlaws rallied with two outs in the fourth to score six runs of their own. Baylin Moore drove in Ben Bianco with a two-run home run as the Outlaws cut the deficit to three.
Another Oneonta run in the fifth made the deficit two, but a five-spot from Glens Falls returned the hosts’ advantage to 14-7. Oneonta’s Ashton Sturgell had gotten out of the third and thrown a scoreless fourth, but Hart hit his second home run, a three-run shot, to break open the lead in the fifth.
Ben Bianco led off the sixth with a home run as the Outlaws scored three, but Glens Falls got two in the inning before scoring four in each of the seventh and eighth to pull away.
Michael Golankiewicz had four hits for Glens Falls, but Hart’s seven RBIs paced the Dragons as they totaled 14 hits and 18 walks.
Moore had three RBIs and two hits to lead the Outlaws. Jared Payne, Bowen Plagge and Bianco each had two RBIs as the Oneonta offense struggled to keep pace with the hosts.
The result pulls the Dragons (12-27) to within 1.5 games of the Outlaws (14-26) at the bottom of the PGCBL East standings.
Oneonta hosts Albany (22-14) Thursday at Damaschke Field.
