Oneonta Post 259 split its doubleheader against Utica Post 229 on Saturday.

The Green Wave used three home runs to top Utica in Game 1, 9-4, but fell in Game 2, 11-8, after Utica combined to score 10 runs in the fifth and sixth inning.

Ryan Packard, Teddy McGraw and Caden Clow each hit a home run to lift the Green Wave to a win over Utica.

John Mikolaicyk got the start on the mound for Oneonta. Mikolaicyk, who just finished his freshman season at RIT, struck out 13 in 6 1/3 innings of work. He also walked two walks and allowed three hits.

Coach Mike Jester said the Green Wave starting pitcher looked sharp all afternoon, but that errors and wild pitches in the first and third innings allowed Utica to get on the board.

Oneonta scored four runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take an early 6-2 lead and never look back.

Aidan Breakey and Mikolaicyk each doubled for the Green Wave in the win.

Oneonta led, 2-1, in the fifth inning of Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, but 10 late runs from Utica led them to a win.

John Mikolaicyk tripled for the Green Wave, and Ryan Packard hit his second home run of the day in the loss.

Pitcher Sean MacInerney started for the Green Wave and Jester said he looked sharp through four innings of work.

He was relieved by Tanner Russin in the fifth after getting into some trouble on the mound.

"This was two good teams playing a good weekend of baseball,' Jester said. "We would have liked to win both games, but it's early in the season and we'll take the split against a good team."
