Katie Barbagallo scored three goals to lead visiting Cortland State to a 5-0 non-conference field hockey victory at Hartwick College on Tuesday.

Barbagallo opened the scoring 2 minutes, 16 seconds into the game, playing off an assist from Erin Smith.

Walton graduate Holley Reynolds took two shots from close range in the closing minutes but failed to score for the Hawks, who received a combined eight saves from Megan Campbell and Devyn Staley.

Hartwick (1-5) plays host to Geneseo at noon Sunday.

Korab Syla scored twice for host Herkimer County Community College, which cruised to a Mountain Valley Conference victory.

Tyler Kraus made 21 saves for the Broncos (1-3-2, 1-2-2), who travel to Adirondack Community College on Saturday.

Two Hawks recognized

Hartwick senior receiver Jordan Wilkins was named the Empire 8 Conference’s offensive player of the week and teammate Alex Tesoriero earned the conference’s special teams player of the week.

Wilkins caught seven passes for his college-high of 201 yards in Hartwick’s 37-14 win over visiting Norwich on Saturday. Tesoriero hit field goals of 28, 30 and a college-high of 40 yards and went 4-for-4 on extra points.

The Hawks (2-0) are at Mount Ida on Saturday.

NEAC honors Tigers

SUNY Cobleskill freshman soccer goalie Jody Pendergast and classmate Rebekah Johnson were named the North Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week, respectively.

Pendergast had two shutouts last week and made 44 saves in helping the Fighting Tigers (2-3-1) to a 1-1-1 record.

Cobleskill travels to Morrisville at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Johnson finished sixth in the Raptor Invitational at Bard College on Saturday. She completed the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 37 seconds in leading Cobleskill to a seventh-place finish.

The Fighting Tigers will compete in the Purple Valley Classic at Williams College at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Cobleskill athlete of the week

Freshman golfer Emily Hamilton was named SUNY Cobleskill’s athlete of the week.

Hamilton shot a 108 to win the Fighting Tiger Invitational at the Cobleskill Golf & Country Club on Friday.

Cobleskill travels to the William Smith Invitational at Clifton Springs CC on Saturday and Sunday.
