Oneonta starting pitcher John Mikolaicyk improved his record to 5-0 on the year in Monday's 14-0 road win over Johnson City Post 1305.

Mikolaicyk, a 2018 graduate of Oneonta High School, struck out 11 batters and allowed two hits and one walk in five innings of work. The game was called after the fifth inning due to the run rule.

"His fastball was just too good for them," Oneonta head coach Mike Jester said. "He had a dominating fastball with good location, and his slider was working too. Everything was clicking today and he looked real good out there."

Oneonta got three runs in the first inning thanks to RBIs from Mikolaicyk, Caden Clow and Andrew Shapiro. It never looked back from there.

Oneonta's Ryan Packard extended his home run streak to three straight games with a two-run home run in the fifth to make it 14-0. It was his team-best sixth homer of the season.

"He's leading us with the power. He gets some strikeouts, but he's dangerous when he makes contact," Jester said of Packard. "Today was a good example. He struck out in the first, then he hit a line drive single in the third. He lined out to third in the fourth and then a two-run homer in the fifth. He's seeing the ball well and he's great mentally. He has the ability to put bad at-bats behind him."

Mikolaicyk registered a game-high three hits in four at-bats, finishing with two doubles and five RBI to go along with his win on the mound.

Shapiro had two hits and two RBI for the Green Wave.

The win was Oneonta's seventh in its last eight games. The Green Wave have averaged 11.5 runs per game over that span and have shut out five opponents.

"We've been getting good production up and down the lineup," Jester said. "Not only that but the pitching has really been great too."

Oneonta leadoff hitter Tanner Beang also returned to the lineup on Monday, making his first start since opening day. Beang had been bothered by a thumb injury he sustained against Hillcrest on June 6. Jester said he's been medically cleared to hit and pitch.

"Getting Tanner back makes us that much more dangerous and makes our lineup deeper," he said. "He's one of the best leadoff hitters I've ever had."
