Senior Kirsten Clapper scored three times Saturday as Oneonta State earned a 4-1 women's soccer victory over visiting Oswego in the SUNY Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

O-State (4-1) extended its NCAA-record conference unbeaten streak to 96 in a row with the victory.

Clapper scored her first of two straight unassisted goals 1 minute, 35 seconds into Saturday's game. She put the Red Dragons ahead, 2-0, at the 17:58 mark, and Christine Marra followed with an unassisted goal at 21:14.

Clapper then capped Oneonta's scoring with 56 seconds left in the first half, converting a pass from Mary Velan for a 4-0 lead. The assist pulled Stamford graduate Velan within two points of Oneonta's all-time points record of 137.

First-year Red Dragons coach Liz McGrail, another former Stamford Central girls soccer standout who coached Oswego for one season, graduated from Oneonta in 2001 as the college's all-time points leader. McGrail and Velan earned Daily Star Player of the Year honors in high school girls soccer in 1995 and 2002, respectively.

Tricia Sullivan scored in the second half for Oswego (0-4).

The Red Dragons (2-3) scored twice during an eight-minute span en route to a SUNYAC victory at Oswego on Saturday. Kyle Hoffer converted a pass from Michael Mahoney 32:38 into the conference opener for both teams, and Keith Manscuk gave Oneonta a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal eight minutes later.

Winning goalie Jonathan Korn made four saves for the Red Dragons, who host a non-conference game against St. John Fisher at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Cross Country

Airfield Invitational

Sophomore Amberlyn Mattice won the women's race Saturday at the Oneonta State Airfield Invitational, earning her first individual title of the season with a time of 17:08 over the 4,500-meter course.

Mattice is the first O-State runner _ male or female _ to win at the Airfield Invitational since the event started in 2004.

Celia Alterio contributed a fourth-place finish in 17:46 for Oneonta, which amassed 76 points and finished second to Cortland (24 points) in the nine-team event.

Senior Alex Grout paced the Red Dragons' men, finishing seventh in 19:51 over a 6,000-meter course. Junior Marty Nicholson placed 10th in 20:00 for Oneonta, which had 89 points and finished third out of eight teams. Cortland's men won the team title with 23 points.

O-State travels to Lehigh University for the Paul Short Invitational on Sept. 28.

O-State finished third at the Flower City Tournament in Rochester this past weekend, beating the University of Rochester, 5-4, in the consolation match.

Matt Steinhauser won at first singles for the Red Dragons (3-1), who also received singles victories from Jon Dorin and Scott Bell.

O-State beat RIT, 6-1, in the opener Saturday. St. Lawrence beat the Red Dragons, 5-2, in Saturday's semifinal. O-State hosts Hartwick on Wednesday.
