Oneonta High senior Beth Gollin broke her school record in winning the Southern Tier Athletic Conference 2,000-meter steeplechase title Monday at Windsor.

The steeplechase races and the heptathlon and pentathlon were held Monday. The remainder of the STAC meet will resume Thursday at Ithaca.

Gollin finished in 7 minutes, 13.3 seconds to break the school record of 7:21.3 she set at last season's STAC meet, when she finished behind Johnson City's McKenna Coughlin and Vestal's Mary Katherine Culp.

"She came from behind," OHS coach Dave Forbes said of Gollin. "She was behind until about 300 meters to go."

Forbes said Gollin passed Culp with about 300 meters to go and went by Coughlin with about 150 meters to go on the final water pit.

Gollin beat Coughlin by about three seconds.

Gollin's teammate, Taylor Hitchcock, finished 10th in a personal-best 8:02.4.

On the boys side, the Yellowjackets' Bryan Stilson placed second in the pentathlon with 2,645 points behind JC's Joe Simek, who had 2,843.

Stilson finished the 110 hurdles in 18.2, cleared 5-9 1/2 in the high jump and had a personal-best 18-6 1/2 in the long jump. He also put the shot over 32 feet and ran a 5:03 in the 1,500.

Oneonta's Levi Anderson finished ninth and took about 40 seconds off his previous best time, crossing in 10:33.0 in the 3,000 steeplechase. Teammate Griffen Rule crossed in 11:52.6.
