Outlaws end losing skid with weekend split

Ben Dubas had two RBIs for Oneonta on Sunday, but the visiting Outlaws struggled, losing to the Jamestown Jammers, 9-2.

In 4.2 innings, Oneonta’s Josh Winkler allowed 10 hits, eight runs and one walk. Winkler also struck out one.

After Dubas hit a two-run single in the second inning, the Outlaws led, 2-1. Jamestown tied the score in the third inning, and took the lead for good with a two-run fourth inning.

Ben Brookover and Collin Stack each hit a triple for the Jammers, who scored all of their runs between the second and the sixth inning.

The Outlaws (8-22) host the Onondaga Flames at 7 p.m. Tuesday.


Oneonta 6, Glens Falls 5

On Saturday, Mike Brown scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning, and the Outlaws defeated the visiting Glens Falls Dragons. The win ended Oneonta’s three-game losing skid.

Leading off the ninth, Brown singled and reached second on an error.

Three batters later, and with one out and the bases loaded, Matt Tsukroff advanced to first on an error to bring in the winning run. Ben Dubas and Chris Tracz each hit a double in the win.

In 7.2 innings, Oneonta’s Cal Lawrence allowed two earned runs, one walk and 10 hits. Lawrence also struck out five. Andrew Workman allowed one hit and a run in 1.1 innings to earn the win.

Outlaws to play

doubleheader vs. Blue Sox

Because of severe weather Friday evening, the Outlaws’ away game against the Utica Blue Sox was postponed.

A make-up date has been announced, and Oneonta will play a doubleheader at Utica on Friday. The first game will begin at 5 p.m, and the second game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The teams were originally scheduled to play one game at 6:30 p.m.


Schenectady 17, Oneonta 4

On Sunday, the final day of the 20th Annual Wood Bat Classic, Oneonta’s Teddy McGraw had two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth inning, but the Green Wave fell to visiting Schenectady County in a consolation game at Neahwa Park.

The Green Wave, who finished with seven hits, scored a run in both the first and third inning. Oneonta also scored two runs in the fourth.

On Tuesday, Oneonta (15-9) visits Binghamton Post-80 at 6 p.m. At Damaschke Field on Sunday, Monroe Post-488 defeated the Montreal Titans, 7-0, in the championship game of the tournament.


Harpursville 1, Oneonta 0

On Saturday, Tanner Beang had two hits, but the Green Wave fell to Harpursville Post-1596 at the baseball field at Oneonta High School.

Dalton Carver doubled, and Hector Gonzalez singled for Oneonta, which finished with four hits. Harpursville, which finished with five hits, scored the go-ahead run in the fourth inning.

Corning 11, Oneonta 0

Teddy McGraw and John Mikolaicyk each had a single, but the Green Wave were easily handled by the Corning Grey Post-749 at Oneonta High School.

In three innings, Oneonta starter Sean MacInerney allowed six runs, seven hits and one walk. MacInerney struck out one. The Green Wave were held to just two hits.


Oneonta 4, Montreal 2

Tanner Beang, Teddy McGraw and Keaton Mark each had two hits to lead the Green Wave past the Montreal Titans at Damaschke Field on Friday. John Mikolaicyk also had a hit.

Beang struck out 10 for the Green Wave, who scored four runs in the fifth inning. ‘‘He had great control of his fast and curve ball,’’ said Oneonta coach Mike Jester of Beang.


OHS’ Sitts qualifies

for national championship

This past weekend, Oneonta High golfer Evan Sitts finished second in the Northeastern New York PGA Junior Championship Qualifier hosted by the Town of Colonie Golf Course.

With a two-day score of six-over 150, Sitts qualified for the 42nd Boy’s Junior PGA Championship. The July 31-Aug. 3 tournament will be hosted by the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Albans, Missouri.

This past season, Sitts was selected to the Section Four New York State Golf team.
