Sitts ties for 18th at New York State Amateur Championship

Recent Oneonta High School graduate Evan Sitts continued summer play at this week's New York State Amateur Championship, finishing in a tie for 18th at Crag Burn Golf Club in East Aurora.

Sitts, of North Franklin, shot a first-round 78 on Tuesday, Aug. 6, before shooting 76 on Wednesday to make the cut by four strokes.

Rounds of 76 and 75 on Thursday gave him a four-round total of 17-over-par 305, tying him with two other players for 18th place. Ben Reichert of East Amherst won the championship, finishing at four over par with a total of 292.

Sitts' tournament started with his highest nine-hole score of the event, tallying three bogeys and one double bogey with one birdie for a four-over 40. His best nine-hole score came during the back nine of his final round, notching one birdie and one bogey for an even-par 36.

His final round featured three birdies and two bogeys, with a quadruple bogey on the par-three fifth hole the only major blemish on the round of 75.

The event ended a week after Sitts returned from the Junior PGA at Hartford, Connecticut's Keney Park Golf Course. He missed the cut by three strokes his final junior event.

Sitts concluded his high school career in the spring with a second-place finish at the NYSPHSAA State Championships. He plans to continue his playing career in the fall during his freshman year at York College of Pennsylvania.
