Derek Hobson's goal with 27 minutes, 33 seconds left lifted the University of Pennsylvania to a 2-1 victory over visiting Hartwick College on Friday in the first round of the Penn Soccer Classic.
The Quakers (1-3) opened the scoring in the 30th minute, when Kevin Unger took a feed from Alex Grendi and beat Hartwick goalie Jeremy Vuolo to the lower-right side.
John Paul Boyle tied it 1:07 into the second half, beating Drew Healy inside the box for his third goal this season. Hobson closed the scoring with his first goal this season, off a double-assist from Brian Mascarenhas and John Elicker.
Hartwick (3-2) plays Lafayette in Sunday's second round. The Leopards downed LaSalle, 1-0, in Friday's other first-round game.
North Park Invitational
Oneonta State defeated Illinois College and Mount Mary College on the first day of the North Park University Invitational at Chicago.
Cait Welch had nine kills, four aces and five digs in the Red Dragons' 30-21, 30-24, 30-27 victory over Illinois College. Morgan Brooks had seven kills, Ashley Gerace contributed 14 assists and two aces, and Sarah Petrignani had five kills for O-State.
In a 30-14, 30-20, 30-15 win over St. Mary's, Petrignani, Jillian Richards and Courtney Wavercak combined for 19 kills, and Red Dragons' servers had 21 aces.
O-State (6-4) plays Rose Hulman Institute of Techology and Knox College on Saturday.
Hartwick opened the Union College Tournament with a 30-23, 30-20, 30-28 loss to Skidmore.
Christina Evans had a team-high 18 kills and 19 digs to lead the Hawks (5-4).
Hartwick's all-time kills and digs leader, Abby Cummings, had seven and 26, respectively. Kerry Sisson paced the Hawks defensively with 27 digs.

Somer Shuffield scored midway through the second half, but Oneonta State fell to host RPI on Thursday.
The Red Dragons (2-3) open SUNYAC play at Geneseo at 1 p.m. Saturday.
